Afro’s pieces often contain “cold work” or “grinding” that is applied to the glass once the piece has cooled to room temperature. These techniques add texture to the finished surface of the vessel
and include:

Battuto

Grinding that leaves a large “scoop”. The surface looks as though it has been beaten or hammered.

Inciso

Incisions cut in varying depths with a grinding wheel and consisting of a straight line or lines. Diamond point engraving was introduced to Murano for the first time by Vincenzo d'Angelo in 1534.

Nastro

Onda
